Katie Carlin Interiors is growing, and we’re looking for an Interior Designer to join our small, collaborative studio in the Annapolis, Maryland area.
We’re looking for someone with a strong design eye, relevant residential design experience, and the ability to think ahead, take ownership of their work, communicate well, and help keep projects moving forward.
This is a part-time position, anticipated to be approximately 20–30 hours per week to start, with the opportunity for hours to grow for the right person.

EXPERIENCE + TECHNICAL SKILLS
We’re looking for someone with professional interior design experience and a working understanding of the behind-the-scenes process of a residential design firm.
Relevant experience may include:
• Residential renovations and/or new construction
• Reading and understanding architectural and construction documents
• Producing or contributing to technical drawings
• Space planning and furniture plans
• Furniture, lighting, material, and finish selections
• Creating and maintaining FF&E schedules
• Working with trade vendors, showrooms, craftspeople, and workrooms
• Sourcing, requesting, and tracking samples through trade resources
• Coordinating selections and information across different phases of a project
• Participating in installations, site visits, and client presentations
Knowledge of Studio Designer is preferred. Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit is a plus.
Experience within high-end residential design and construction-based projects is a major plus.
A formal degree in interior design, interior architecture, or a related field is not required if you have strong, relevant professional experience. A relevant degree combined with professional high-end residential design experience is ideal.
We’re less interested in a specific number of years on paper than we are in finding someone with the right combination of design ability, technical knowledge, initiative, and work style.
THE ROLE
This person will have exposure to and involvement across the full design process, including:
Concept development
Space planning
Furniture and material sourcing
Design presentations
Technical drawings and documentation
FF&E schedules
Sample ordering and coordination
Project coordination & project management
Coordinating with builders/contractors, architects, subcontractors, vendors, and workrooms
Site visits and construction meetings
Supporting the Principal Designer during client meetings and installations
Installations
Styling and photo shoots
Client communication
Supporting the organization and maintenance of the studio design library, including samples and materials
Because we are a small studio, this is a hands-on position where everyone contributes across different aspects of the work. We’re looking for someone who enjoys seeing how all of the pieces of a project and studio come together and is interested in being involved in projects from concept through completion.
LOGISTICS
• Part-time, approximately 20–30 hours per week to start

• Compensation: Based on experience
• Based in the Annapolis, Maryland area
• Primarily an in-studio, in-person position
• Includes time at project sites, vendor showrooms, workrooms, and meetings
• Reliable transportation is required
• Some local and regional travel to project sites and vendors is required
• Must be comfortable with the physical aspects of installations and photo shoots, including lifting and moving accessories, samples, boxes, and other typical project materials
